Spring 2017: Color Story and Trends
The holidays are all wrapped up and reality has set in…we still have to endure two more months of cold Wisconsin weather! This is the perfect time to distract ourselves with happy thoughts of spring fashion. We will be talking trends, colors, and what you can expect to see in our store come springtime.
Let’s start with the color palette of the season. Pantone’s color of the year for 2017 is greenery. Although we love the vibrancy of this leafy color we feel that the yellow toned green can be hard to pull off. For that reason, you won’t see an abundance of greenery at the store. What you will see is what they are calling “kale” or army green. We love this color in casual pants and jackets.
If you are a fan of blues, spring 2017 is your season. From Niagara to Lapis Blue to Island Paradise, these watery shades will be just about everywhere. Stay current and pair your blues with coral, light pink or sage green. Bonus: Blue is Terese’s favorite color! Stand back and watch the blue items roll in this spring.
As far as neutrals go you will see less grey this season and more tan and green, especially in pants. These neutrals will pair great with pops of color such as pink yarrow and orange flame.
Now that we have our colors in order, let’s talk trends! The first trend Terese noted when she came back from the spring market was patterned pants. Patterns rage from big and bold to small and subtle. Ankle length pants are going to be even more widely accepted this year. In the world of athletic clothing they are calling them the 7/8 pant. You will also see a little different take on the distressed look. Unhemmed edges, patches and slit knees are all the rage. We think these are a great way to wear the distressed trend without looking too sloppy.
The jacket to look for this season is the bomber jacket. This trend has been brewing for a while but we will introduce it to our store this spring in some new and exciting fabrics from brands like Liverpool and Rino and Pelle. Another outerwear trend to watch is long vests. Whether structured or drapey, vests have proven to be an easy and effective way to pull an outfit together.
The cold shoulder trend will continue in the tops category this year. We saw a lot of completely off the shoulder styles last summer but we will just show a few tastefully open shoulders at the store. Look out for botanical prints and seaside stripes as well. These two prints come around pretty much every spring but with an updated twist. Stripes will be bolder and floral prints will be set against a black backdrop. Also keep an eye out for statement sleeves. Lace details, bell sleeves and cutouts are just a few ways to wear the trend.
We will wrap up our trend talk by touching on a few spring accessories for 2017. Look for beautiful leather handbags in fresh blue colors. You will see purses in a variety of sizes but it’s being noted that the mini purse is making a comeback. Even though we all love a great handbag, it is being reported that people are buying less bags and more shoes. This year you will see stacked heels and stylized sneakers all over! Keep an eye out for a few pairs of shoes popping up at Terese Zache this season. You heard it here first! As far as jewelry goes long necklaces are a must for every wardrobe. Choker necklaces continue to be a trend. We think wearing a small silk scarf around your neck is a classic twist on this trend.
We will be getting in lots of spring deliveries all throughout February and March. Don’t forget to check on our New Arrivals Page to stay up to date on what’s in store. We can’t wait to explore the stylish season of spring 2017 with you!
